August 28th - Andie Anderson & David Herrera
Episode 6: If you want to speak a language, you need to speak the language
Andie Anderson has been teaching Spanish for over 5 years now. Her philosophy to learn a new language is simple: if you want to speak a language, you need to speak the language.
This week's episode, our conversation focuses on the strategies to learn in a classroom and outside of it. Many people think that only reading, listening, or attending classes is the way to learn, and these are valid and important steps, but you need practice. If you don't speak, you won't be able to develop the communication skills needed for a real conversation.
Here is what you can expect from this week's episode:
How speaking confidently with mistakes is more effective than whispering perfectly conjugated sentences
Why necessity drives the push past fears of mistakes
Effective language instruction includes teaching how to ask for clarification
Take at least 5 minutes every day to speak your target language out loud
